Simon’s work is characterised by seemingly effortless storytelling, beautifully observed performances and vivid, memorable imagery. It’s often pretty funny too. He has shot commercials all over the world for clients such as British Airways, BBC Sport, Kellogg’s, Tesco, RBS, The National Lottery, The AA and McDonald’s.
Awards include Best New Director at The British Television Advertising Awards and a Bronze Lion at Cannes for his work for Cancer Research UK. Simon’s short film Washdays premiered at Palm Springs and played at over 20 international film festivals. It won Best Film at Rushes Soho Shorts, Special Jury Prize at Austin and was nominated for a British Independent Film Award.
In 2013 he made a half-hour comedy called Doughnuts for Channel 4’s prestigious talent scheme Coming Up. It starred Adeel Akhtar (Utopia, Four Lions, Pan) and premiered at The Edinburgh International Film Festival. Time Out gave it four stars and it won Pick Of The Day in The Guardian, The Sun and Metro newspapers. Simon recently directed the second series of Youngers, Big Talk’s teen comedy drama for Channel 4. All eight episodes won Pick Of The Day in The Guardian and The Observer described the show as ‘Tender, topical, truthful. A gem’.
